The Patent System of Georgia

In 1999 the National Intellectual Property Center is established.

On February 5, 1999 the Parliament of Georgia adopted the Patent Law and the Law on Trademarks. On June 22, 1999 there was adopted the Law on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications of Goods and the special law on Topographies of Integrated Circuits. All the above mentioned Laws are in full compliance with the principles and legal norms established in the international practice and requirement of World Trade Organization.

The laws regulating the legal field of intellectual property are:

  • Law on Appellations of Origin and Geographical Indications of Goods
  • Law on Topographies of Integral Circuits
  • Law on Border Measures relating to Intellectual Property


The Georgian Republic has entered the following international agreements:
  • Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property
  • World Intellectual Property Organization
  • Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT)
  • Berne Convention on Literary and Artistic Works
  • Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks
  • Hague Agreement
  • Nice Agreement Concerning the International Classification of Goods and Services for the Purposes of the Registration of Marks
